Former Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung and Regional Minister for Electricity Zarni Aung were charged at Mandalay Region high court for the cases under anti-corruption law, sources said.
Dr. Zaw Myint Maung has been sued with five cases under anti-corruption charges, and Zarni Aung has been sued with 2 charges according to their team of lawyers.
“We didn’t know what the charges are. We are just copying their cases. Dr. Zaw Myint Maung was filed with five cases under anti-corruption commission and two cases against Zarni Aung. One case for Dr. Zaw Myint Maung and two cases for Zarni Aung will be taken care of a lawyer team led by me. There are three lawyer teams for them. We asked permission to meet them and the court gave permission to do so. We have to ask permission from the prison. The main thing is that Dr. Zaw Myint Maung’s health is good. He seems to be cheerful. The next court hearing is on October 1,” said his lawyer Thein Than Oo.
Dr. Zaw Myint Maung and Zarni Aung were appeared via video conferencing. According to the anti-corruption commission’s statement on July 6, it stated that Dr. Zaw Myint Maung when he was chief minister for Mandalay Region, took bribes from a company, and accepting cash from the developer of Amara Pura urbanization project while receiving treatment for leukemia in Thailand, and giving less amount than the actual market price for the land plots of Myingyan NLD party office, and Pyin Oo Lwin NLD party office.
Zarni Aung when he was minister for electricity, power and construction of Mandalay Region, gave less amount than the actual market price for the land plots of NLD party Aung Myay Tharzan Township and Chan Aye Tharzan township, according to the statement.
Dr Zaw Myint Maung has been sued under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 25 of natural disaster law at the Aung Myay Tharzan township court.
