Thailand arrests Myanmar citizens for illegal entry

MYAWADDY---- Thai security forces arrested 60 Myanmar citizens for illegal entry to Thailand on August 14th and 15th.

The Thai security forces are now guarding their border areas hoping to ban border transnational crimes during Covid-19 third wave.

On August 14th and 15, totaling 60 Myanmar citizens were arrested with their brokers including Thai national at the northern part of Mae Soat, Tark Province and Pharyar Thonesu border.

The detained Myanmar citizens had to pay Baht 3,000 to the brokers as a service charge of each person going to Mae Soat.

The Committee for Emergency Control and Prevention of Covid-19 in Thailand announced that about 40,000 Myanmar citizens were arrested in Thailand during 17 months of Covid-19 outbreak.

“Nearly 40,000 Myanmar citizens illegally had entered to Thailand until end of July. The Thailand Committee for Emergency Control and Prevention of Covid-19 reported that 30,000 Myanmar citizens out of 40,000 were arrested at the border. The remaining 10,000 were detained in the inner Thailand,” said Moe Kyo, Chairman of Joint Action Committee for Burma Affairs- JACBA. 

He also said that not only Thailand but also Myanmar faced Covid-19 surge. Among ASEAN countries, Myanmar and Thailand involved in the list of Covid-19 death toll record.

The Thailand’s health department is now checking the health condition of detained Myanmar citizens but the detained Myanmar citizens must be taken actions against the Thailand’s Immigration Law.
