Some cities in Ayeyawaddy Region faced record high numbers of deaths due to COVID-19 and demand for oxygen is skyrocketing.

Pathein is the place where most of the deaths occurred and according to Manaw Phyu Philanthropic Association which is a local association, 29 people died on July 13 alone. From July 1 to July 13, the numbers of death toll reached to 151. Since July 10, at least 20 people were dying each day.

The numbers of confirmed cases are not express in the social media pages now.  When contacting to Township Public Health Department, no confirmation was able to make.

People in the cities are treating the virus by themselves from their homes. In the list of COVID-19 deaths also included people treating the virus from their homes and lost their lives.

Myaung Mya stood second in the fatality rate and according to the data collected at 12;00 am on July 14, there were 24 deaths according to local social organizations.

“No health check is carried out now. All the doctors and nurses at the hospital are also infected with the virus. Three hospitals have not enough oxygen to treat patients. There are no quarantine centers,” said a member of the social organization.

In Nyaungdon, 9 people were dead with the virus till July 14 afternoons. Shortages of medicine occurred at the medicine shops. Ministry of Health and Sports announced Pathein, Tharbaung, Myaungmya, Kangyi Daunk and Hinthada Townships under Stay at Home rule.
