One was killed and three others were injured from amongst the crowd participating in the protest on May 2 in Hpa-kant, Kachin State.
The 33-years-old Ko Wai Phyo from No.4 Lone Khin Ward was shot in the head and died.
"So we started to march in protest. Shots were fired and there were sounds of mines exploding. The young man died on the spot. Both clashed head on and there were zero warnings. The body has been taken to the Hpa-kant hospital. Three others were injured from bullets with wounds to arm, thigh and shoulder. There are now 3 total deaths in Hpa-kant. I am saddened beyond words," said a Hpa-kant local.
In Kachin State, there are now a total of 11 deaths as a result of crackdowns on protets. On March 8, Ko Pho Lone and U Cho Tar from Myitkiyna were killed. On March 14 was Ko Kyaw Lin Htike. On March 25 was U Win Swe and Ko Soe Naing Tun from Moe Nhyin. On March 27 was Ko Win Kyaw Soe from Ho-pin, Ko Thant Zaw from Hpa-kant and Ma Shwe Myint from Banmaw. On March 30 was Ko Myo Min Thu. On March 31 was Ko Myo Thant Kyaw and on May 2 was Ko Wai Phyo.
