Myanmar will restore the old system in which air passengers need filling in arrival and departure cards at its international airports, according to sources from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population.

The system restoration which is in effect on March 1 is required to record personal data of foreigners and Myanmar citizens when they arrive at or leave the country, the ministry’s statement said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced that the suspension of entry visas for foreign visitors to Myanmar has been extended till February 28 as a measure to prevent the Covid-19 spreading.

However, the visa restrictions will be exempted for those with governmental duties or emergency issues and diplomats and staff from UN organizations if they are to arrive in Myanmar on relief or special flights. To do so, they will have to contact Myanmar embassies and consul general’s offices in foreign countries.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications also announced the extended suspension of international flights till February 28 as a measure to prevent the Covid-19 spreading.

Over the past three months in the current 2020-2021 fiscal year, 1,956 foreigners have arrived at Yangon and Mandalay airports on special flights.

Myanmar earned US$71.52 million from visa on arrival fees from foreigners from 2016 to August 2020.
