The whole main building of Yangon General Hospital has been prepared to house Covid-19 patients while another extended ward for 80 patients is also being prepared in front of the main ward, said YGH medical superintendent Dr Myint Myint Aye through state media.
“We are seeing a lot of cases in the second wave of Covid-19. As YGH is set to house Covid-19 patients, the main red building has been prepared starting from emergency cases. At emergence units, we made preparations for patient wards and operation theater. The operation room is also prepared for surgical operation on Covid-19 patients,” she said.
Currently, Myanmar is seeing Covid-19 cluster cases in single places. The number of patients is increasing as about a hundred of cases usually emerge from a place. Yangon still sees around 1,000 cases every day, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Sports.
“Gradually, Covid-positive patients are coming to YGH. They want to receive treatment here. We prioritize ICU patients. As the hospital has full equipment, more patients are coming here. A ward is being built in front of the main ward. The will house 80 patients,” the medical superintendent said.
Yangon Region is the worst hit in the second wave of the Covid-19 outbreak. Since September 20, a stay-at-home rule has been imposed in all the townships of the region except Coco Island Township.
When it comes to Covid-19 death rate, the country still sees over 20 or around 30 deaths daily.
Dr Than Naing Soe, spokesperson from the Ministry of Health and Sports, said cluster cases are mostly found at markets, monasteries, factories, homes for the aged and prisons.
