Arakan Front Party (AFP) has won three parliamentary seats in Kyaukphyu Township Constituency and it has expressed its readiness if election is to be held in nine other townships of Rakhine State where the election did not take place in the November 8 election, according to a party statement released on November 12.

The statement was issued in acknowledgement of the party supporters.

AFP contested some constituencies in Rakhine State in the 2020 general election on November 8. It won two seats of state parliament and one lower house seat in Kyaukphyu Township.

Dr Aye Maung is the chair of APF. However, he is currently in jail and the Arakan National Party belongs to him and has not allowed him to resign. At present, AFP is being led by vice chairman and state parliament member Kyaw Zaw Oo.

Two political parties have existed in Rakhine State showing proof that they could have turned out representatives in both state parliament and union parliament after the election, the statement says.

It says AFP is grateful to its supporters who voted for the party despite little election campaigning due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

In the statement, the party has vowed to build up itself hand in hand with the Rakhine people.
