The government’s cash assistance during the Covid-19 crisis should really go to the needy people but that assistance reaching those who do not deserve is tantamount to jeopardizing the government’s aim, said Upper House Speaker Mann Win Khaing Than.  

He made the remark during the fourth ceremony to provide State cash assistance to the grassroots people without regular income in the Covid-19 period held in Ward (3), Myawady, Kayin State, on November 10. 

“Those possessing properties such as homes and shops are not the grassroots. We have to pay the really needy people. Otherwise, it amounts to hampering the government’s aim. So this cash assistance must go to the needy people. In proving such assistance, we also need to go in groups, not individuals,” the speaker said. 

Since the Covid outbreak, 54,268 households in Myawady Township have been provided with Ks20,000 each through respective ward and village administrators. The total amount was Ks1,085,360,000.  

The township administrator, Phyo Zaw Ko Ko, said committees were formed to be able to provide government cash assistance systematically for those really in need, excluding those such as store owners, house owners and businesspeople. 

The ceremony was also attended by parliamentary representatives and local authorities.
