Myanmar needs well preparations and plans for boosting trade in the post-Covid-19 period as the 2020-2021 fiscal year may see impact though there is little impact in the crisis period, said Union Minister for Commerce Dr Than Myint.
The ministry has started issuing import and export licenses under a fully online system and reduced license fees to save time and money. Plans are also underway to launch Myanmar TradeNet 2.0 soon.
All-out efforts are being made for the development of trade as well as special economic zones and private business sectors, the minister said, stressing the need for systematic management as the ministry has extended its wing after establishing an intellectual property department.
He added that the ministry is also trying to manufacture value-added products for an extensive global market without much reliance on a single market.
He stressed the need for bringing about a systematic market economy while staff need to try to build up their capacity.
Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, Myanmar’s foreign trade value hit over US$36.6 billion in the 2019-2020 fiscal year exceeding US$2 billion against the target.
