Thai police catch Myanmar nationals trafficking marijuana

At a press conference held at the Mae Sot Police Station on 6 Oct, two Myanmar nationals were apprehended with 360kg of marijuana in  Mae Tao area, Mae Sot Township, intended to be brought into Myanmar.     



A total of 136kg of marijuana was seized from Ko Soe Win who was trying to bring them to Myawady on 5 Oct afternoon at the Mae Sot - Myawady friendship bridge on the Thai side, Saw Htee Soe was apprehended on 5 Oct. evening in Mae Sot. 



Besides being booked for drug charges, Saw Htee Soe will be charged with illegal entry into Thailand.     



At the press conference it was mentioned that the 360kg of marijuana was from northeastern Thailand.     



A Myanmar national, driver Moe Win was apprehended with the marijuana on 5 Oct. about 1pm at the Thai side of friendship bridge, BCF toll gate.     



The vehicle driven by Moe Win, coming from Thailand and going to Myanmar was searched by Thai security army and police at the Thai side of Friendship Bridge (2), and 136 packets of what was thought to be marijuana were found in cardboard boxes.     



The authorities interrogated the driver Maung Moe Win and learnt that he was hired by someone from Myawady to transport goods from Mae Tao area, Mae Sot township for a fee of B1500.     



Driver Maung Moe Win is a resident of Thanatpin township, Bago Region, and holds an international driving license. He transports passengers and goods along Myawady - Mae Sot route.
