A 500-bed Inya Lake Covid-19 Treatment Center is being constructed at Yangon Convention Center and the construction is due to finish in 10 days, said Zaw Ye Naung, an official from the center on October 2.
Under the guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Sports and Yangon Region government, the treatment center started its construction on September 29 with the initial funds of Ks1 billion—Ks700 million by KBZ Bank and Ks300 million by Shwe Thanlwin Company.
“We are very lucky we can convert it into a Covid treatment center. We are grateful to all donors and all those participating in the construction. If we also could turn it into an oxygen therapy center, it will be like our tremendous need has been met,” said professor Dr Zaw Wai Soe, vice chair of Yangon Region Covid-19 Prevention, Control and Treatment Coordination Committee, according to the statement released by the center.
The treatment center will be equipped with 500 beds including 16 high dependency units.
“When it comes to construction, petitioning has completed by 90 percent. It was completed in 54 hours. We are now doing things such as electricity and internet connection and CCTV installation. The project is expected to finish in 10 days,” said Zaw Ye Naung.
There will be separate buildings to house doctors, nurses and volunteers and a 24-hour food court.
