Many patients who come to the fever clinics in Yangon Region are due to the loss of their sense of smell, on-duty doctors from those clinics have said.
More than 50 people visit their respective township fever clinics daily and most of them are found to have lost sense of smell.
“Over 50 people come to us every day. Most of them are losing their sense of smell. Some come because they are sneezing or coughing,” said Dr Min Naing Htut from the Fever Clinic in Ward 12 of Hlinethaya Township.
Dr Ko Ko Htwe from the Fever Clinic in Mingalar Taungnyunt Township said they are taking two steps towards the patients losing their sense of smell.
“We ask them if they will be at home or at an isolation center. Their house must have enough space to be separated from other family members. If it is not convenient for them to live at home, we arrange for them to stay in an isolation center,” he said.
Dr Yu Sandar Moe from the Tamway Township Fever Clinic also confirmed most patients were losing their sense of smell.
“Feverish people come to us. But most are losing their sense of smell. Today, we have received about 70. The number is increasing day by day. Our clinic opens from Monday to Friday, she said.
The union minister for health and sports has instructed to expose the percentage of patients who have lost their sense of smell. He called for coordination from relevant experts to conduct more Covid-19 tests.
