YANGON-A total of 75 monks and novices from Ywama Pariyatti Monastery in Insein Township, Yangon Region, already have been infected with COVID-19 virus, says MP Wai Phyo Han.
Currently, those infected monks and novices were sent to Hmawbi Township.
The Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS) yesterday announced that there were 88 COVID-19 confirmed cases in Insein Township, Yangon Region. Among them, 75 cases were monks and novices from Insein Ywama Pariyatti Monastery.
“We heard that the monks from Ywama Pariyatti Monastery in Insein Township tested positive for COVID-19. The MOHS yesterday evening reported that 88 people were infected with coronavirus. 75 COVID-19 confirmed cases out of 88 were monks and novices from Ywama monastery. At present, the monastery is closed and the Sayadaws [monks] didn’t allow the authorities to come into the monastery. Likewise, nobody leaves outside. The Tatmadaw [military] is now carrying out the medical checks. Currently, the confirmed patients[monks and novices] are sent to Hmawbi Township,” said MP Wai Phyo Han from No.2 Constituency in Insein Township.
At present, health workers from MOHS together with the army provide medical services to those infected monks and novices at the Military Medical Corps Centre in Hmawbi Township, according to the announcement issued by the Insein Ywama Pariyatti Monastery yesterday evening.
In Insein Township, there are over 200 COVID-19 confirmed cases and the township is one of the hotspot areas for COVID-19 outbreak in Yangon Region.
