The total number of war victims in Rakhine State has reached nearly 200,000, according to the figures released by Rakhine Ethnics Congress (REC) on 7 July.
It has been over one year the residents from Yathaedaung, Butheedaung, Kyauktaw, MraukU, Minbya, Ponnagyun, Myebon, Kyaukphyu and Ann Townships have fled to the safer places due to the ongoing fights.
According to the list, the number of people living at the IDP camps are: 62,137—2,513 in Ponnagyun, 11,495 in Kyauktaw, 17,383 in MraukU, 2,150 in Minbya Township, 2,357 in Myaebon Township, 1,443 in Ann Township, 311 in Kyaukphyu Township, 9,754 in Yathaedaung Township, 8821 in Buthidaung Township, 5,316 in Sittwe and 594 in Pauktaw Township.
According to the REC’s list, the total number of IDPs in Rakhine State has reached 190,708. Currently, 15,566 households and 62,137 populations (27.530 males and 34.607 females), are taking shelter at the IDP camps. In addition, 128,571 IDPs are taking shelter at the houses of their relatives and friends.
U Aung Than, a resident from Kyauktaw Township said: “The IDPs are facing accommodation and food shortage problems. They have to solve their problems with the assistance of social organizations. Now the temporary shelters are being built for the accommodations of IDPs in the rainy season.”
