Over US$420 has been earned from export of over 1,960 tons of jade over the past eight months of the current fiscal year exceeding US$100 million compared to the same period of last year as 560 tons more could be exported, said an official from the Ministry of Commerce.
From October 1, 2019 to May 22 this year, Myanmar exported 1,964 tons of jade earning US$420.036 million. In the same period of last FY, 1,406 tons were exported earning US$318 million.
Therefore, this year saw 558 more tons of jade with US$102.036 million more in export earnings, the official said.
Myanmar’s jade is sold through gems and jade emporiums, so the sale of jade depends on those emporiums.
In realizing the national planning objective, over Ks97.8 billion was earned from sale and export of gems and jade in the fourth year of the government’s term exceeding the target of Ks56.4 billion, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.
Till November 2019, over 1,250 gems mining blocks ranging from small-scale to large-scale were approved.
