The President Office has ordered the military to have military MPs and people in quarantine around Nay Pyi Taw tested for Covid-19, said Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun, secretary of the Tatmadaw (Military) True News Information Team.

He disclosed the information after a statement released by the Ministry of Health and Sports on the number of Covid-19 tests including those tested by the military.  

Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun said the President Office assigned duties to the military because its lab is in conformity with norms and standards of the National Health Laboratory.

“The President Office has assigned such duties to us. With the use of our machine in Nay Pyi Taw, we have to test Covid-19 for people in quarantine in and around Nay Pyi Taw, parliamentary representatives and military MPs. We also have to test those coming from Yangon,” he added.

According to the ministry’s press release on May 6 morning, 186 samples were tested by the National Health Laboratory (Yangon), 106 by the Department of Medical Research and 363 by No (2) Defence Services Hospital (1000-bed).

Recently, Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun said that the military could test samples of up to 1,400 people in one time.
