Two Chinese tourists that violated laws regarding the protection and preservation of ancient monuments have been filed for a case.

They drove up to Oh Htain hill in the ancient Bagan zone by car in early February.

On the evening of February 1, Chinese citizen Mr.Xing Xiaojun (passport no-EO-4570052) and Mr.Zhu Youngqiang (passport no-EO-5751788) together with 18 other Chinese arrived at the hill via cars. They then prepared to rest at the hill with folding chairs they have brought and a pack of beers. A local tourist guide spotted them and warned them that this area was prohibited for motor vehicles as well as the consumption of alcohol.

They are now charged under protection and preservation of ancient monuments law, section 20. It is stated that “No one shall carry out anything to cause damage to ancient monuments within the specified area without any written prior permission.”

The police are on the look-out for Xing Xiaojun and Zhu Youngqiang.
