The ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) will run for seats in 37 townships in Sagaing Region in the upcoming election, said Myint Kyi, secretary of Sagaing Region NLD.

“I can tell the selection of candidates only after getting directives from the central body," Myint Kyi who is also a member of the central committee.

We understand that the 2020 general election is very crucial not only for the country but also for the NLD and the opposition parties have the same views on that point. Executive members of Sagaing Region NLD have started working on organizing tasks after meeting with ward, village, district and subcommittee, he continued.

There are only two big political parties which can form the government, namely the opposition Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and the ruling NLD. The NLD’s major opposition is the USDP.

The ruling NLD secured all seats in townships of Sagaing Region in 2015 general election.
