JMC-U Chairman meets UN Special Rep for Children and Armed Conflict

YANGON-Chairman of the Joint Monitoring Committee at Union Level (JMC-U) Lt-Gen Yar Pyae met with UN Special Representative for Children and Conflict Ms.Virginia Gamba and party yesterday at the office of National Reconciliation and Peace Center in Yangon, according to the JMC-U’s announcement.

The UN Special Rep said that the ceasefire was very important for Peace and Tranquility and glad to know the activities of JMC for preventive measures to protect the child rights.

She also claims belief that Myanmar will see success in gaining peace. As her experiences, the issue of rehabilitation for children is important after gaining peace.

The JMC-U’s Chairman also said that they didn’t want children in conflict regions to experience learning difficulties and that the JMC was the joint committee which protected children against conflicts as JMC had enforced ban on usage of children during the conflicts.

According to the request of the UN Special Representative, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae briefed her on the reforms of current peace activities.

On the occasion was Maung Maung Nyein, JMC-U’s vice-chairman -2, Secretary-2 Col. Wunna Aung, the civilian representatives, UNRC’s Rep Jan Ola Albert Almgren, UNICEF’s Rep in Myanmar June Kunugi, UN’s officials and Senior Advisor of UNRC Su Su Thar Tun.
