The cauldron at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics will have red, blue and green flames, reflecting the colors of the Paralympic emblem, sources said.

The Olympic cauldron will be used in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Paralympics at the National Stadium in Tokyo.

The organizing committee is looking at ways to showcase the three colors during the ceremonies and at other opportunities during the Games.

The Olympic cauldron will have a spherical design, according to sources.

The cauldron will be fueled by hydrogen during the Olympics and Paralympics, at which innovative technology will be used to produce multicolored flames.

Widely regarded as a next-genera- tion energy source, Hydrogen will be used to fuel the cauldron at the Games for the first time.

According to the organizing committee’s plans, the globe-shaped cauldron will open after it is lit at the Olympic opening ceremony, a spectacle meant to evoke the sun.

The committee plans to showcase the multicolored flame at the Paralympic opening ceremony on Aug. 25.

The “Three Agitos” Paraylmpic symbol comprises three curves in red, blue and green, while the Olympic symbol has five rings in five colors. Agito means “I move” in Latin and is said to express the dynamism of athletes overcoming difficulties.

It is hoped the multicolored flame helps to convey the spirit of the Paralympics in Japan and around the world.
