Maungdaw – Heavy rain damaged some temporary shelters at Thihoaye refugee camp in Maungdaw Township on September 11, sources said.

Water covered the refugee camp and some villages in the township due to mountain stream caused by heavy rain.

“Heavy rain poured down continuously for three days and the water level in the stream is increased last night. More than 10 shelters are damaged and rice bags are destroyed by water. They need bamboos, waterproof canvas and food supplies,” said Thonemile Monk.

The refugee camp is located in Thiho Forest in the township and about 70 family households of Mro ethnics, who arrived at the camp since December 2017, are living at the camp.

Similarly, houses in Waytharli and Kanthayar villages in the township have been submerged by water.
