YANGON- With the aim to help with the COVID-19 cases, Yangon Region Social Welfare Organization (YRO) already has been formed with 55 special volunteers, according to YRO’s vice-chairman Moe Nyein.

YRO aims to carry COVID-19 patients and send them to the hospitals.

“Since Myanmar found the confirmed COVID-19 cases, we are helping with the activities for the public joining hand with the authorities. There are over 180 teams comprising over 8,000 volunteers in our organization. Under a normal situation, we can’t carry the COVID-19 patient from the home and send them to the hospital without wearing PPE because it transmit person to person. As for the volunteers, they have to prepare by themselves. For example, the volunteers are needed to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) systematically. Firstly, we chose 25 volunteers. If those selected 25 volunteers will be in Quarantine, we are going to reinforce our members with more than 25 volunteers. Five will be commanding the 50 volunteers. Totaling there are 55 volunteers,” said Moe Nyein.

He also said that the YRO’s Call Center will be placed at the No.1 Basic Education High School in Tamwe Township. There have been five ambulances that are being sprayed with disinfectant. Those volunteers are now serving 24 hours at the call center. Moreover, the phone numbers are posted on the YRO’s page as well as the YRO is now seeking the donors. YRO also has a plan to evacuate the troubled persons.

YRO’s call center will be opened on April 9th.
