Yangon Region is now in the beginning stages to contain COVID-19 says State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi in her televised speech to the public on October 23 evening.

The most important thing is that people need to be aware of the Stay at Home Townships announcement and the order is  still in force. And especially Yangon region where some factories are reopened depending on the fact that they abide by the rules and regulations issued by the Government. But, some think reopening of factories means they are free from Stay at Home order.

“The rules and regulations concerning Stay at Home are still in force. I would like to request the public to patiently follow the instructions laid down to prevent COVID-19. In Yangon Region, we are in the initial stage of controlling the COVID-19. It is really in the beginning to control the virus. I don’t mean that the virus is under control in Yangon Region. What I would like to say is that the data is declining from the top. But, ups and downs are still continuing. It is not totally declining. To be able to control the virus effectively, we have to work more,” said Aung San Suu Kyi.

She continued by saying that in percentage or in the numbers of outbreak, Yangon Region stood first and what followed is Bago Region, Rakhine State and Mandalay Region. But, if we look at the Mandalay Region, it doesn’t stand 4th in percentage ranking. But, Yangon, Bago and Rakhine are the most outbreak areas in percentage and in numbers. Therefore, these Yangon, Bago and Rakhine must pay special attention concerning COVID-19.

She added that as the COVID-19 continues to exist longer; daily lives of people will face more challenges. Therefore, the government is planning and arranging how to support and to provide more assistance. After the implementations, she said that she will let the public know about the plans. She is so sorry that the government couldn't fully support the public, she said that she knew that there are some inconveniences in the health sector such as unable to make arrangements for the people who need to go quarantine and go to hospital. New arrangements are being made to fulfill the requirement to go quarantine and to go to hospital as quickly as possible.
