A traffic police member has to supervise more than 900 vehicles in Yangon Region, said Police Captain Myo Aung Myint from No.7 Traffic Police of Yangon West District.
There are more than 910,000 registered vehicles and only 1,000 traffic police members in Yangon. The traffic police to vehicle ratio is 1:915. This is an unbalanced ratio, he added.
As Yangon has a population of over 8,200,000, a traffic police member has to supervise 8,000 commuters.
There is an unbalanced ratio between vehicle and traffic police members and between commuters and traffic police members.
The traffic police have no sufficient members. The traffic police are working to recruit new police members to deal with this problem. There will be a gradual decline in the unbalanced ratio between vehicle and traffic police members and between commuters and traffic police members when the number of traffic police members increases, he continued.
