YANGON----There are not enough beds at some hospitals in Yangon Region as well as important protective equipment like PPE suits, facemasks and medicines, say patients and wellwishers.

As COVID-19 patient numbers skyrocket compared to the previous outbreak, bed shortages took place in some hospitals in Yangon Region.

Facebook user Htein Lin posted his account on October 8th that he had been hospitalized at the Yangon General Hospital as a person under testing for COVID-19 and that there are no more places for the patients.

Concerning the current situation of Yangon General Hospital, not only photos but also video files were posted on his account.

However, the Yangon General Hospital didn’t give remarks on his post until October 8th despite it going viral on Facebook.

There have been requirements such as PPE suits, facemasks and some medicines at the hospitals in Yangon Region.

“I would like to urge the wellwishers to donate the cash instead of PPE suits. In the past, we donated PPE suits but it was low quality. Some PPE suits in the markets aren’t safe for the medical workers,” said Aye Aye Soe (Economic University).

Due to an increased number of coronavirus infected patients during the second wave, there had been needs at some hospitals, according to the State Counsellor. 

She had apologized concerning the issue and said that plans were underway to fulfill the needs. Moreover, she thanked the entrepreneurs, organizations and those persons who supported the COVID-19 response and treatment programs.

In Yangon Region, COVID-19 special treatment hospitals are Phaunggyi, Waibargi and South Oakkalapa hospitals.

The central level hospitals under the Ministry of Health and Sports are giving medical treatments to the coronavirus patients.

Similarly, the COVID-19 treatment centers are being opened in Thuwana Stadium, Hlaing Campus , Yoma Yeiktha and Aung Myin Mo housings in Yangon Region.

The newly extended, temporary hospitals are at Fortune Plaza, Inya Center and Tharkayta Makeshift hospital.
