YANGON- About 200 workers at the World Jin Garment Factory demanded in front of the Yangon Region’s Government Office yesterday morning for the region’s Chief Minister to solve labour issues.

The World Jin workers reported about the violation of labour rights to the labour Department since October 25th.

However, the department has yet to solve labour issues over 50 days.

Although World Jin workers frequently discussed the labour issues with the relevant departments at the Labour Arbitration Office, authorities did not show up, leading them to beseech the Chief Minister.

“On December 13th, we submitted a letter to the Yangon Region Government to meet with the Yangon Region Chief Minister on December 16th. However, there was no reply from the Yangon Region Government. That’s why we arrived in front of the Yangon government’s office. We discussed with the relevant departments but the factory owner did not come. So, we asked the Yangon Region Chief Minister to help us because other departments can’t make decisions,” said worker Kyaw Lin Oo from World Jin Garment Factory.

Moe Moe Su Kyi, Immigration and Human Resources Minister from Yangon Region Government received the World Jin workers.

At the meeting, the workers reported their difficulties to Immigration Minister Moe Moe Su Kyi, who replied that she would come to the Labour Arbitration Office on December 23rd and settle their issues in accordance with the labour law.

There are about 350 workers total at the World Jin Garment Factory, situated in No.2 Thardukan Industrial Zone.

The workers also claimed that they’ve held two strikes but each time, the factory management had failed to comply with agreements.
