Workers from Mila Garden Factory in Setyon Street in Hlegu Township, Yangon Region, have sent a complaint letter to the township administrator saying they did not receive social security benefits from the factory.
“They (the Social Security Board) have paid our benefits since June this year. Now, factory officials told us that as the amount is little, we will not be paid individually now. Instead, the money will be added to the bonus that we will receive in April next year. If they are honest, they should have told us earlier if we would get the money or not,” one worker leader, Thiha Zaw, said.
An argument occurred between the employer and employees at the factory. Factory officials defended that the social security benefits could not have been drawn as there were no holidays. However, workers said that after their inquiry they came to know that the money has been drawn by the factory since June.
Thiha Zaw said the complaint had been sent to the township administrator but there is no reply yet.
On October 22 and 23 also, the workers demanded the factory follow and respect the guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Sports regarding the Covid-19 outbreak.
The factory officials could not be reached for information.
