A woman suspected of producing and using counterfeit 10,000-kyat banknotes was arrested in Hnitkayin Village, Ye Township, Mon State, according to local residents and security sources.
The suspect, identified as Ma Myu Lin Lin (also known as Thuza), aged 28, had been living in a rented house near the old police station in Hnitkayin Village for about nine months with her husband and another female worker. They also operated a clothing shop, a local resident said.
The resident explained that after the couple quarreled recently, the husband reported the matter to the authorities. On September 11, security forces carried out a search, during which villagers discovered that counterfeit notes were being produced in the house.
It was learned that the fake notes had already been used for purchases, raising concerns among locals about potential financial losses.
During the September 11 raid, security forces reportedly seized equipment used for counterfeiting, including a colour printer, paper, other related materials, and counterfeit 10,000-kyat notes amounting to around 14 million kyats in printed form.
Following the arrest, Ma Myu Lin Lin (aka Thuza) was charged at Ye Myoma Police Station under Case No. Pa-31/2025 in accordance with the Central Bank of Myanmar Law, and investigations are ongoing.
In a related case in April 2024, authorities in Mawlamyine also discovered narcotic pills, homemade gun parts, ammunition, counterfeit 10,000-kyat notes (five finished, four unfinished, and two printed sheets), as well as materials used for forgery. They also seized two fake ID cards, two blank ID forms, and three counterfeit Mon State government seals.
