Weint Li gold shop in Mandalay robbed of gold and jewelry worth Ks1.5 billion

Weint Li Gold & Jewelry Shop on 80th Street between 29th and 30th streets in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Region, was robbed and gold and jewelry worth Ks1.5 billion taken away on the evening of December 18, according to initial police reports.  

Four unidentified men arrived on two motorbikes at the gold shop just after 5pm, fired a gun about five times and made off with the gold and jewelry from the glass counter.  

They entered the shop after 5pm. They told all the people in the shop to get down and took away the gold and jewelry, said a witness.  

Authorities are investigating the case and said further information would be released.

According to the reports, the shop was robbed of gold and jewelry worth about Ks1.5 billion including 165 gold chains, six gold bracelets, 11 diamond hand chains, five diamond lockets and 15 gold coin chains.

Moreover, the robbers reportedly robbed a shopper of Ks1 million.   

Local residents say robberies and thefts have frequently occurred in Mandalay city.
