The number of Covid-19 cases is increasing slightly every week after the discovery of the mutated variant, announced the Ministry of Health (MOH).

In December 2023, there have been many cases of Covid-19 in the region and some neighboring countries due to the infection of the Covid-19 transgenic Omicron virus JN.1. In Myanmar, JN.1 infection has already been confirmed, and recently, the MOH announced that the weekly number of Covid-19 infections is slightly higher.

The MOH urges people to follow the personal protection regulations issued in order to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including the Covid-19 disease.

The MOH advises the public to wear masks when visiting densely populated place, enclosed space when in poorly ventilated areas, traveling by vehicles, trains, ships, and airplanes used by the public and hospitals/health centers and nursing homes.

In addition, elderly people who have a high risk of severe disease and death, those with chronic diseases and those with weakened immune systems should receive additional vaccinations against Covid-19, announced the MOH.
