A member of Hta Ward administrative body in North Okkalapa Township, Yangon, was shot near the iron bridge on Thazin Road at about 9am today, according to local sources.

U Soe Soe, a 100-house administrator of the ward, was shot when he was going on a motorbike to his ward administrative office. He had reportedly sustained multiple bullet wounds.

A resident from Hta Ward said: “He was shot near the iron bridge at the edge of the agriculture department. The incident happened on Thazin Road. He suffered multiple wounds. He is reportedly in hospital. But some say he has died. The area was blockaded by police and soldiers this morning. But it has been opened shortly before schools were over.”    

According to some local sources, the man who was shot has died but it could not be verified.

The ward administrative member had already been awarded an honorary title by the State Administration Council.
