War veteran shot dead in Swa

A man in his sixties was shot to death in Swa town, Yedashe Township, Bago Region, on June 2 evening, and investigation is going on to expose who killed him, police source says.

The dead man was Myo Nyunt, 64, living in Khindangyi Village, Kyeikpatti Village-tract, Swa. He was found dead with gunshot wounds under the bridge connecting Ywathit Village and Swa Ywama Village in the town of Swa.

“The incident happened yesterday evening. On the eastern bank of the Sittoung River, a war veteran was found dead with gunshot wounds after he might have been accused of being an informant. He sustained gunshot wounds in the left part of the chest and in the left side of his body. Actually, he was a practitioner from the military. He was called for giving an injection to a patient in Ywathit Village. It was likely that on the way, he was dragged under the bridge and shot dead. Now, police including the head of the township police force and the deputy head of Toungoo police force are going to the crime scene,” said an official from Swa Police Station.   

At about 6 pm on June 2 Nu Nu Khaing, wife of Myo Nyunt, while at home, was informed by Myit Kyaing (an organizer of the Union Solidarity and Development Party) about his death. The body was sent to Swa station hospital. The body was then identified as Myo Nyunt by her wife when she arrived at the hospital.

According to the police station, he was assumed to be killed as he was a war veteran who might have been accused of being a military informant. The case is still under investigation.
