USDP’s CEC member U Thaung Aye becomes general secretary

U Thaung Aye, CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), has been assigned as general secretary, according to sources close to the party. 

During the party’s conference on October 4 and 5, party chair and two vice chairs were only elected. Now, the sources said the posts of vice chairman-3 and general secretary were selected during a USDP’s CEC meeting on October 28.  

CEC member U Thaung Aye has become general secretary and retired lieutenant general Myo Zaw Thein vice chairman-3.

U Myo Zaw Thein newly appointed as party vice chairman-3 retired as Adjutant General this month.

Currently, U Khin Yee serves as chairman, U Myat Hein as vice chairman-1 and U Hla Tun as vice chairman-2, U Myot Zaw Thein as vice chairman-3, U Thaung Aye as general secretary and U Tin Aung Chit as joint general secretary.

The CEC of the USDP is formed with 46 members. During the two-day conference, chairman U Than Htay was replaced by U Khin Yi. The majority of old CEC members still belong to the newly formed committee.
