The opposition Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) believes that it would secure enough votes to form a government in the 2020 General Election, said spokesperson Thein Tun Oo.
“We are ready to receive the decision by the public in the election. The USDP will exercise the Proportional representation (PR) system if it wins a victory. This aims to enable all political parties and relevant regions to engage in it. We expect we will get a dignified victory in the upcoming election. Our victory would reach a situation in which other parties will form a coalition with our party. Or else, we will get a victory which helps us stand alone. The main point is the people’s decision. I think the people will recognize our efforts, works and patriotic spirits. We believe that our party alone can form the government. Other parties will make an offer to the USDP if they want to form a coalition government.”
The USDP will mainly choose the qualified candidates who will serve the interests of the region and the country and have a nationalistic view, regardless of the fact whether they are civil servants, civilian or retired army officers or retired director-general not. The USDP is still scrutinizing the selection of candidates. The USDP will choose the candidates based on the fact that they are favored by the locals. The female contribution ratio in the party is around 30 per cent. The youth contribution ratio is also high, he added.
“Our party is not Bhamar party. Our party is union party. The reason is that the party is composed of all ethnics. The party conference was attended by the ethnic people. Marching towards the federal union means the autonomy and is to reduce the president’s authority. The "first-past-the-post" (FPTP) principle is linked to the internal conflicts. The USDP will carry out the amendment to the provisions linked to the PR system in the constitution if the public assign the duty to us,” he continued.
