The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) is gathering up a petition against some irregularities during the advance voting and on Election Day in Pyawbwe constituency of Mandalay Region and will submit a report to the Union Election Commission as its supporters are willing to complain, said party candidate Thaung Aye, who ran for election in Pyawbwe Township constituency for a lower house seat.

“All those who show opposition in the township gave their signatures. The election was unfair and twisted. We oppose it for justice. We are not opposing parliamentary seats. We will not say either about our elections results. They got the votes through unfairness. Win or loss is not important. But the people are not satisfied. So they show their opposition. What we want to say is that the election was unfair,” Thaung Aye said.

He said the petition was planned as the local people demand. Some signatures are still being collected and some have been collected, he added.

“Pyawbwe can be called the township of USDP supporters. There are few supporters of the National League for Democracy. They are in town areas. Some villages have no supporters at all. So the people are not happy. During the advancing voting period and on Election Day (November 8), they witnessed electoral irregularities and unfairness. They have come to understand that we lost because of such unfairness. This is why we are getting up a petition,” Thaung Aye commented.

He pointed out some irregularities such as giving two ballot identity cards to one voter, voting twice by one voter and incomplete personal data of voters.

In the Pyawbwe lower house constituency in the November 8 election, NLD candidate Dr Win Maung secured 98,755 votes defeating USDP’s Thaung Aye, who got 74,278 votes.
