The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) already complained against Sagaing Region Chief Minister Dr Myint Naing who violated COVID-19 guidelines while campaigning to the Shwebo District Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19.

The USDP also sent a copy of the complaint letter dated on November 3rd to the Shwebo District election sub-commission.

“They[USDP] didn’t complain about Sagaing Chief to us. They only complained to the relevant COVID-19 control committee about violation of COVID-19 rules and regulations while launching the election campaign. However, USDP sent a copy of the complaint letter to us. It is just informing. We, the Shwebo District election sub-commission, don’t take actions,” said Aung Min Oo, a chairman of Shwebo District election sub-commission.

A complaint letter reported that the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) launched a canvassing campaign comprising about 300 supporters as well as 120 motorbikes and 17 vehicles on November 1st ignoring the COVID-19 guidelines being issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports. The campaign was led by the Sagaing Region Chief Minister who is also an NLD’s candidate representing in No.2 Constituency in Sagaing Region. So, the letter urged the authorities to take actions against the Sagaing Chief for violating of COVID-19 regulations.

“We submitted the permission for a canvassing campaign involving only six persons. We don’t know how many supporters participated in our election campaign. So, ask our election’s representative about the details,” said Dr Myint Naing, Sagaing Chief.
