Myanmar has been chosen as one of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) executive board members for the first time in seventy years time, announced Myanmar Embassy in Paris, France on November 21.

Myanmar joined UNESCO in June 1949.

Myanmar is chosen as UNESCO executive board member in Asia-Pacific group and won 142 votes from 180 member countries.

The election for executive board members was held on November 20.

The UNESCO General Conference is being held from November 12 to 27.

Bagan is officially inscribed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in June this year during the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee.
