The Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has announced that undocumented Myanmar nationals in Malaysia are being issued C of I on the same day if they wish to return home, and that action will be taken against those who forge it.

According to the Malaysian government’s special program, undocumented Myanmar nationals in Malaysia who wish to return to Myanmar are required to provide proof of their Myanmar citizenship, and if the proof is valid, they are being issued a Certificate of Identity (C of I) on the same day, the Myanmar Embassy said.

Proof of Myanmar citizenship includes a National Registration Card (NRC), household list, ward/village recommendation letter, address of parents, siblings, and relatives, and contact phone number.

However, since it has been discovered that people are entering Myanmar with fake C of I, the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has announced that they will investigate and identify those who entered Myanmar with fake C of I and those who forge C of I and take effective action in accordance with the existing laws and regulations of Myanmar and Malaysia.

Currently, the Malaysian government is conducting a crackdown on foreign workers, including undocumented Myanmar nationals, in Malaysia, and thousands of undocumented Myanmar nationals have been arrested.
