Two civilians injured during drop bomb attacks on Kyone Eait bridge construction site

Two civilians were injured in a drop bomb attack on the construction site of a temporary bailey bridge which is being built to replace the old Kyone Eait bridge situated between Thaton and Bilin Townships on Yangon-Mawlamyine road yesterday morning.

Yesterday morning, five bombs from flying drones fell onto the construction site of Kyone Eait Bridge which was blown up on June 29 this year. But no construction workers from Bridge Special-14 Team were injured.

However, a bomb dropped near a trishaw heading to Tabetswe village in Bilin Township from Thaton Township and blasted. Due to the blast, the trishaw driver and his passenger were injured, according to a social welfare organization.

“We sent the injured persons to the Bilin People’s Hospital,” said official from the social welfare organization.

The passengers said that the shooting between security force and armed groups who had carried out drone attacks on the construction site of the Kyone Eait bridge occurred after the drop bomb attacks.

“Before we arrived at the blown-up Kyone Eait bridge, we heard that the construction site of Kyone Eait bridge was attacked with drop bombs. So, we, all buses were waiting. Meanwhile, we heard the gunfire. Around 10:30 am of July 9, the shooting stopped. Later, the vehicles were moving,” said a driver who left for Yangon from Mawlamyaing.

Likewise, the construction site of Kyone Eait bridge was attacked with a drop bomb attack on the morning of July 7 and one of the members of security force was injured, according to the person who is close to the police members.

The Kyone Eait Bridge was mined by the KNU Brigade No.1 and N0.2 and the combined team of KNLA and PDF members around 4:30 am of June 29. Due to the explosion, three private cars were destroyed. Among them, two cars fell into the creek from the bridge. One civilian died and another was injured due to an explosion at the Kyone Eait bridge.

After the explosion, the security members and departmental officials who went to check the bridge for repair on the highway were also attacked with drop bombs. A district engineer died and others were injured.
