Two aftershocks measuring 4.9 and 4.1 on the Richter scale struck near Thabeikkyin Township on January 1, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
The first aftershock occurred at 7:48:58 .m. with its epicenter located about nine miles south of Thabeikkyin Township. The earthquake registered a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale and had a depth of 13 kilometers, the department reported.
A second aftershock was recorded at 8:33:16 am. the same day. Its epicenter was approximately nine miles southwest of Thabeikkyin Township, with a magnitude of 4.1 and a depth of 10 kilometers, according to officials.
The tremors were reported as aftershocks following a stronger earlier earthquake.
