A test run of a cargo carriage was made from Yawthargyi Dry Port in east Dagon to Myitnge, in order to test the viability of transporting cargos from Yangon ports to middle of Myanmar by trains, according to Myanmar Railways.

On October 12, Yawthargyi- Myitnge No - 923 cargo train was used for the test run. Two dry ports were built on the land owned by Myanmar Railways in east Dagon Township. These two dry ports are built via a BOT system by KM Terminal & Logistics Co. Limited and Resource Group Co. Logistics Limited.

Each dry port is about 40 acres and started construction in October 2017. It is posed to complete during this month. KM Terminal & Logistics Co. Limited and Resource Group Co. Logistics Limited have used more than US $ 50 million for the building of the two dry ports. At present, approximately 50 percent of the construction efforts are finished.

After completion, cargo carriages could be ran from Thilawa- Yawthargyi- Myitnge stations. Over 200,000 containers can be stored in soon to be completed dry ports. By doing so, it will ease traffic between downtown Yangon and Thilawa port as less container trucks will be required.

A logistic hub will be built in 59 acres of land in Hlaing Tharyar Township in Yangon Region. It hopes to control import quality and reduce expenditure cost and it must meet international standards, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
