Three men were shot in their legs and hands during gunfire by security forces in KhinU Township, Shwebo District, Sagaing Region, at about 12 pm today, according to initial reports.

Shooting continues till now in the town and further reports will come.

At about 10 pm on March 24 also, some young people were reportedly arrested while acting as watchmen in Aung Chan Tha Ward of the town. About 14 people were arrested.

Shooting also occurred as local residents gathered in front of KhinU Police Station demanding the release of the arrestees. Resisting gunfire, they continued demanding their release, so the 40 young people were released around midnight.   

Initial reports say that more military and police troops were deployed in KhinU this morning following last night’s incident.
