A man who stole a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and drove away at about 6am on October 23 in Myaingthayar Ward, Mawlamyine, Mon Sate, was arrested in the afternoon, according to police sources.

The car owner parked his car near Myaingthayar Park at the corner of Bogyoke Aung San Street in Mawlamyine at about 6am for breakfast. When he came out of a nearby tea shop, he found that his car was not around. He then filed a complaint to the police station concerned.

As CCTV footage shows that the stolen car was found driving away from Mamlamyine to Mudon, police stations in Mudon, Thanphyuzayet and Ye townships were contacted and searches were conducted. The car was hastily driven into a lane beside BOC fuel station on Ye-Dawei Road in Ye Township, and the police managed to arrest the car thief.

“We have learned that the car thief is Htet Myat Oo (aka) Wa Tok, aged 29, living in Aryutaung village, Ye township. A tough arrest had to be made as he tried to escape. The car was also recovered and handed over to Myaingthayar Police Station,” said a source close to the police.

The police station has filed a case against the car thief.
