The person who died in a bus stop bomb blast in Kyauktada Township, Yangon Region, has turned out to be the perpetrator, said Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson of the State Administration Council and deputy information minister. 

He disclosed the information during a press conference of the SAC held I Nay Pyi Taw on June 1.

The bomb explosion occurred at the Bar Street bus stop located at the corner of Anawrahta Road and 35th Street in Kyauktada Township at around 3:20 pm on May 31, killing one person and injuring nine others.

“Yesterday, a bomb explosion occurred at the 35th Street bus stop on Anawrahta Road in Kyauktada Township, Yangon. It’s terrible. We have discovered the bomber. According to the on-site information, an unidentified man, aged about 30, died. We released that information. Here are pieces of his photo evidence since he arrived at the bus stop. He was carrying a bag containing a bomb. He was wearing a black shirt and a longyi (sarong). He was also holding a purse. He seemed to be detonating from the inside of it. It was likely that the bomb exploded before detonation. We also checked his mobile phone and found that there were messages from others telling him what and how to do. He had links with PDFs and he was also its member. He took a PDF terrorism course. He was named Aung Gyi (aka) Htein Lin Tun, 26. He was a staff from a computer shop (still under scrutiny) in Kyauktada Township. We have also sought confirmation from those close to him,” Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said. 

A CCTV record about the bomb blast was shown at the press conference. 

The SAC spokesperson dismissed the news released by a media outlet that the offence was committed by the military itself because the incident took place in a busy place.

“We will show a CCTV record to the media with evidence. We will show evidence such as the links he had with others in the phone. His phone was also in the bomb blast. The glass was greatly cracked. We had to squeeze the information very difficultly. Otherwise, we would be blamed for accusing the deceased,” Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said.

He then called for public cooperation with security forces in ensuring stability and community peace and tranquility.
