Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai told ASEAN foreign ministers Tuesday that he recently met with Myanmar's ousted leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained since a February 2021 military takeover, ASEAN diplomatic sources said.
Don's contact with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was the first confirmed meeting between a high-ranking foreign government official and Myanmar's democracy icon since the military toppled Suu Kyi's democratically elected government.
Don may read out a message from Aung San Suu Kyi, whom he met Sunday, during the second day of a foreign ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations that started Tuesday in Jakarta, the sources said.
