Taipei Metro suspended after Magnitude 6.1 earthquake hits Hualien | # AsiaNewsNetwork

TAIPEI (The China Post) – A magnitude-6.1 earthquake hit Hualien, eastern Taiwan at 13:01 p.m. today, where an intensity level of 7 was felt, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB). The intensity level was measured at level 4 in both Taipei City and New Taipei City. For safety, Taipei Metro has arranged all the passengers to get off at the nearest stop and service is suspended for now.

According to Taipei Metro, all passengers have been evacuated after the earthquake occurred and the company is now inspecting into the track and infrastructure manually, before it resumes operation.

Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) has also suspended its service. The Central Emergency Operation Center has informed relevant ministries to prepare for an immediate meeting in the event of emergency.
