Swift action is needed as the Dawei Special Economic Zone can become an important zone in Southeast Asia, said Dr Kan Zaw, Chairman of the Myanmar Special Economic Zone Central Working Committee and Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

The Union Minister said this at the third meeting of the Central Working Group on Myanmar Special Economic Zones for the 2024-2025 FY held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw on January 14.

The Chairman of the Myanmar Special Economic Zone Central Working Committee said that the state of entry of new investment businesses in Thilawa Special Economic Zone and Kyaukphyu SEZ Consortium Company Limited and CITIC Consortium, which is a Myanmar Government Designated Entity (GDE) and is established as a joint company recognized by the Myanmar government, is a matter to be carried out in order to continue to successfully carry out the activities and to continue to do so because the Dawei Special Economic Zone can become an important zone in Southeast Asia. He also added to invite investors and investments, to make rapid development of special economic zones in the country and to implement the investors and investments in accordance with the Myanmar Special Economic Zone Law and bylaws.

Furthermore, the Vice Chairman of the Myanmar Special Economic Zone Central Working Committee said about the conditions in which new investment has entered Thilawa Special Economic Zone and the state of investment improvement, coordinating with the relevant ministries to increase the export sector, the status of the Myanmar Government Designated Entity Consortium (GDE) which will cooperate in the implementation of the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Deep Sea Port project, the state of Myanmar's formation of experts to assist the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Management Committee in cooperation with experts from China's CITIC side to have better implementation of the project area and location, and the successful implementation of the Kyaukphyu Deep Sea Port Project.
