Strong wind in Mawlamyine destroyed houses, schools, monasteries and shops on the evening of September 2.
Wards in Phat Tan, Kyaikanei, Shwe Myaing Thiri, and Tharyar Aye wards were the most damaged.
"At 10:00 pm, we heard a loud noise but at first, we thought it was just noises from vehicles. When we went outside, we saw trees that have fallen and roofs of the buildings that were blown away. Lamp-posts had also fallen down," said Po Zaw, Kyaikanei ward administrator.
He continued saying that the amount of the damage is huge.
“We are collecting the data and are now clearing the roads by moving away the debris on the road. About 50 houses were destroyed, 50 trees fell and wire lines from the lamp-posts were cut. “
Rescue teams are busy helping the people in need of help. But, there is no report of casualties.
