COLOMBO (The Island/ANN) - Jaffna District Development Committee requests Defence Ministry Secretary to shift the security fence back to make way for more land to resettle people.
The Jaffna District Development Committee has requested Secretary to the Defence Ministry, Kamal Gunaratne, to shift the security fence constructed by troops between Kadduwan and Myliddy 400 metres back from where it is now.
United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP, Angajan Ramanathan proposed the move when the Committee met under the leadership of Jaffna District Secretary Nagalingam Vedanayagam.
The Committee has determined that due to this fence put up in 2018, traveling along the Kadduwan - Myliddy Road has become difficult and that it also makes it harder for officials to resettle the displaced persons. Therefore they decided to write to Gunaratne.
If the security forces shift the fence 400 metres another five acres could be released for resettling people, and if the Kadduwan - Myliddy Road is opened,that will also be the easiest way to reach the Jaffna International Airport, the committee has pointed out. In April 2018, the army released 700 acres of land, from the high security zone area in Myliddy.
