Southern Shan State sees over 500 car accidents last year

More than 500 car accidents occurred in southern Shan State killing 234 people, and actions were taken against 313 in 2019, according to traffic police sources. 

From January to December last year, the state experienced 503 car accidents in 21 townships with loss and damage valued at over Ks-38.4 million. 

Traffic Police Force in southern Shan State conducted 503 rounds of traffic rule campaign for over 80,000 students, public members, motorists and conductors, troops and service personnel last year. 

A campaign urging motorcyclists to wear helmets was recently held in busy areas of Taunggyi. Moreover, a campaign calling for installing rear mirrors will also be conducted in the town on coming weekend under the cooperation between government departments and civil society organizations. 

Traffic police officer Tun Naing Aung said the traffic rules committee would be called on to adopt left turning at traffic lights.
